About Us:
Abolish Private Prisons (APP) is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to ending mass
incarceration by eliminating profit-driven incentives in the criminal justice system. We use
litigation, policy reform, and community outreach to advance this cause.


Position Overview:
APP seeks someone with experience in community organizing to bring together a coalition of
strategic partners around policy advocacy priorities in criminal justice, that will be
determined through the coalition-building process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with APP staff, identify and engage coalition partners, fostering
    collaboration and drafting a formal Coalition Agreement; organize and facilitate
    coalition agendas and meetings.
  • Build relationships with legislators, government officials, and stakeholders to influence
    policy.
  • Potentially represent APP in coalition meetings and other public forums.
  • Create advocacy materials (legislative briefs, talking points) and mobilize grassroots
    support.
  • Track legislative outcomes and coalition progress, adjusting strategies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, criminal justice, or related field (or
    equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years in coalition building or community organizing, preferably in the nonprofit
    sector.
  • Strong understanding of legislative processes and political landscapes.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Commitment to social justice and APP’s mission.

Compensation:
5-6 month independent contractor role, with potential for extension. Remote work; compensation
based on experience.
